Q. Mice bird feeder problem - how to stop mice from coming to my bird feeder?

"Rescue the poor starving birds around my house in the winter by telling me..."

This is such an incredible problem for me. I have tried everything and now I am on the verge of getting rid of the bird feeder. Please somebody please rescue the poor starving birds around my house in the winter by telling me how to get rid of my mouse problem that has come about because of all the spilled seeds. Birds are really pretty but they are also very messy eaters. They spill more seed than they eat.

Q. How do i stop mice from going in my blue bird houses?

"Inside the mesh area in case the mice get through the barrier...."

Y have to use a wire mess or unfortunately poison them with warefarren (rate poison). Watch out that you don`t poison the bird too though. I woud put a mesh on the lower outside part and then put the poison inside the mesh area in case the mice get through the barrier.

Q. What kind of deadbolts do i need to secure my house and trailer?

"For your trailer its a different matter..."

Go to the hardware store and buy the most expensive deadbolt and install it for your house. For your trailer its a different matter. You need to call a locksmith for a trailer because the doors need to be re-enforced to provide any serious protection.

"Is covered with fine metal mesh to prevent the mice from nestling in the..."

A humane and natural way of keeping mice away from your property is to use Peppermint oil. Add a few drops to some water in a spray bottle and spray around the outside of your house, including the boundaries of your garden and the inside of your home too. Pay special attention to any little crevices in your building and ensure any holes or cracks on the outside of your house is covered with fine metal mesh to prevent the mice from nestling in the holes. Mice find their way back to places they have previously found food and shelter by following the scent of their urine. Peppermint will disguise the urine and they'll be unable to determine that they were previously at your property, deterring other mice from coming near your house in the process. There are enclosed humane traps available, where you place a piece of food on one end of the trap and when the mouse approaches, the trap tips slightly and closes a door behind the mouse, trapping the mouse inside. The best food to entice the mouse is something sugary - jam and cereal has worked for me! The mouse is not hurt and you can then release the mouse at least 1 mile from your home.

Q. How do you stop mice from coming into your house?
i have never had problems with mice. i have noticed mouse droppings in one of my cabinets. it is located on an outside wall. i plugged the hole with steel wool and put out mouse poison. the mice keep eating the poison-it's almost like i have a herd of mice entering, but just this one area. i would like to keep them out, please help. i don't think i could handle disposing of a mouse on a trap-i would get sick.

"Mice can enter through holes and cracks that would seem impossible..."

Mice can enter through holes and cracks that would seem impossible. One main area is where your pipes enter into cabinets. You have used the right product, steel wool, for blocking but there may be other places. Mice then have litters which increase the population rapidly. throwing away the whole trap (spring type) would be less expensive than the new traps that are mechanical and cost about $3 per trap.

Q. Ways to prevent mice from coming in my house?
is there anything else i can do to prevent them from coming in? we kill them in traps, but more get in.

"Find from the inside where they are coming in then go outside and look..."

Same thing I suggest to anyone with any type of unwanted pest in the house. You absolutely must find the place where these mice are coming in and once you do you can get a can of Great Stuff! and that will seal up the hole not even letting water to get in that place. The other hint I give is if you cannot find from the inside where they are coming in then go outside and look for possible places they could be coming in and seal them up with the expanding foam.

Q. I have mice coming inside my house but we have a cat inside why wont the cat attack the mice?
i thougt with the scent of the cat the would not come inside the house

"It's not likely to hunt any mice unless it's for play..."

Lol, if your cat is a domestic one, it's not likely to hunt any mice unless it's for play. Meaning that you feed it, and that means that it won't hunt for it's food. I don't know if having a cat scares mice off, but your cat won't likely catch any of them for food.

Q. What is the best way to kill rats and mice that are coming into the house. what places do you leave the bait?
i live in the valley here in northern calif. and i have tried traps and d-con pellets nothing seems to be working. also i live in the city limits were its all housing and my house gets cleaned on a daily bases.

I would recommend traps. Try using cheese or peanut butter. Place the traps in a dark area maybe behind appliances or beside your trash cans. Peanut butter sticks to the trap better. Makes it a little harder for the little varmints to steal it.

Q. Why, after a mouse-free winter, would mice be coming into my house now?
inspired by nora g's question.

"Your house is a "soup kitchen"..."

where ever they migrated from, they probably ran out of a food source. your house is a "soup kitchen"; ready to be raided. they are probably looking for a place where they won't become a food source themselves.

Q. Golden labrador scared of mice coming into house?
my mum lives by herself with a golden lab but lately he has been playing up as he wont go in the living room unless my mum drags him in! her neighbour told her that her house had been covered in droppings and now my mum has found some droppings in her house too. my mum works 40 hours a week so when she is out, toby, the dog stays in the house (living room) so we are now thinking that he has been seeing them when mum is out. he is also waking up about 3-4 am in the morning and is crying on and off even during the day. do you think that his behaviour could be because of mice? any thoughts please

"If there are mice in that house and there are droppings you needs..."

It may be, He may hae gotten bitten by one of them. If there are mice in that house and there are droppings you needs to get an exterminator to get rid of them. Mice carry disease that can harm you and the dog.

Q. How do i stop house mice from raiding my hamster's cage without lethal tactics?
a house mouse keeps coming into my hamster's cage and stealing it's food. what do i do?!? my cage is not made of glass. it is a crittertrail cage with bars. the mouse just squeezes through the bars and jumps in.

"Option #2 - you know where the mice enter...so put traps or poison around..."

Option #1 - Buy a glass aquarium and move your hamster into it. You can get a ten gallon one for $12 brand new. Put a screen cover over it and your hamster is now immune to mice. Even without a cover you would probably be fine, as the mice cant scale a foot of glass. Option #2 - You know where the mice enter...so put traps or poison around the cage and kill the mice. I personally don't like killing mice (they are just trying to survive like everyone else). I bought a live animal trap from a hardware store for about $20. They do work, but you have to convince the mice to enter it. Once you have them, take them far away from your house and release them. Option #3 - Buy some screen material (like they use in screen doors) and put it over all bar openings in your hamsters cage. You can get this from hardware stores or home improvement stores like Home Depot. You probably have some material around your house already. Any one of those should work. But Option #1 is probably the best and easiest IMO. Oh, and the food stealing is not what I would be worried about. Mice carry diseases. Thats a way bigger deal than food stealing. You need to address this asap.

Q. What is the best way to prevent mice from coming into your house?
a couple of months ago, my roommate and i found signs that a mouse had been in our kitchen cabinets, so we put out traps, and we ended up catching about 5 or 6 mice total. we also put out poison, and we sealed any holes that we noticed with steel wool and aluminum scrubbing pads. we haven't seen signs of any mice for over 4 months, but we kept a couple of traps out just incase. then, this morning, suddenly there was a mouse in the trap! first of all, do you think that it's possible that we have had mice in our house all this time and just didn't know it because we didn't catch any?? and if new ones are coming in, what is the best way to repel them?? i have done everything that i know to do, but we live in an older house and i guess they are finding new ways in. what is the best way to keep them from coming inside??

"Way to keep mice out of your house - and i'm not being a..."

Keeping mice out is very difficult especially if you have an older house. They can go through a 1/4 square inch opening. It seems just about impossible to find and seal every opening that a mouse can get through. In my experience, the absolute best way to keep mice out of your house - and I'm NOT being a wise-guy here- is to keep a cat around the house. Even then, they will come in occasionally, but they won't last very long. If you can't have a cat, then traps and poison are probably the best bet. Keep looking for openings and seal any that you find. Some places to be aware of are where telephone or TV cables come in, along with gas lines, electrical wires, etc.
