Functionally not too much except for a good compass will have a casing that allows you to line up the compass with the map for orienteering. It depends on your intent whether or not you need to spend to buy the more expensive compass.

i bought this cheap car compass from sprawalmart today and it never points at the right direction. i brought it inside and it does. now i see that magnets can make it point in other directions. i got satellite radio, and i think that adds magnetic reactions... where are you supposed to put these things on your windshield at? its for cars, and not by my xm, what the hell ok, i followed instructions, this might be ok, but dude it sounds like you put it where its blocking view of traffic, dont do that. bottom, middle of windshield seems ok for the last 20min. im sure though, it wont be perfect

Yes, it's a $3 piece of crap from Wally World and I have one, too. And it works just fine. It has a suction cup and I mounted it on the windshield just below my rearview mirror. That way, magnets from the car speakers in the dash, and the blower motors and stuff, don't affect it.

I bought a Coleman LENSATIC COMPASS at K-mart ( try the outdoors camping dept. ), it's a better compass because it is in liquid and more stable. I paid around 4-6 dollars Please if you use Compass , stay away from all metallic objects including dish because the metal will interfere with compass. Also keep in mind Magnetic deviation , that is the true direction you must point at , depending on where you live you wil have to add or subtract a couple of degrees , and yes it's possible to live in a perfect location where you don't have to do either - + . i've been shopping for a new car for the past 2 months and hoping to buy before autumn. i have really no preference, just fairly priced and practical car. if theses american cars are cheaper, are they really priced fair or just inferior? i have no case against resale and depreciation values cause i would love my car up to the last mile it runs.

i have a 99 wrangler that i drove the spit out of!! it has 472,000 miles on it. i bought it with 163,000 back in 2006. i have replaced the radiator, tstat, and oil pan gasket. when i cross 500k, i will take a picture and post it here and on my myspace, so that one and all can marvel at AMERICAN car quality.

i have a 6v liberty but i will be moving from san diego to dallas in june. i want to change it for a 4v compass (jeep). basically because the gas is cheaper for the compass i was thinking in buying it in sd and drive it all the way up to dallas, but then i was thinking maybe the car is more inexpensive in dallas so i could keep my liberty, drive it to dallas and buy the compass over there. with the inconvenience of spending a lot in gas and mileage too.

Car prices in Dallas are way below the prices in San Diego so the best bet is to wait and buy in Dallas..☺
