Shaun | Wow. After just 3 days with the citronella spray dog collar, my dog has stopped barking almost entirely.... wow its so awesome. I hardly believe its the same dog. If you have a dog barking problem you have to try this. I don`t know the brand I bought but its a dog collar that sprays a citronella (lemon smelling) mist in front of your dog every time he barks. Dogs don`t like this smell but it doesn`t harm them in any way. If I had only found this years ago. Well I hope this post saves someone else a lot of dog heartache.

 Q. How do i to find a dog training collar that really works to stop my dog from barking? i have two dogs that when in the yard bark at everything. i have one bark collar, but it does not seem to work most of the time.
"Dogs hate being separated from their owner..."
Yard dogs tend to bark. Training and plenty of exercise work much better than any collar. I gave my dogs a dog door into a gated area in the house, as long as they had access into the house they did not bark overly much. Dogs hate being separated from their owner, and being put outside can make that worse.
If they are just barking anytime they go out, I'd say find a trainer http://dogpro.org and exercise them more...off the property. Dogs get bored easily.

 Q. How much is a bark collar-or any thing that will stop my dog from barking, in australia, sydney? my dog barks like mad when he sees something move, but i dont want to stop him from barking- just something that will not let him bark when i use it, but he will bark nevertheless without it.
does a bark collar do that?
or anything else that isn't that cruel?
i understand brittany, but that stops him from barking forever, because he will be afriad that the collar wil yank him when he barks, even if it isn't on.
the shock collars are cruel i think. i had a friend buy one and put it on his wrist to check it out and he said it was like the equivalent of a stun gun or worse. needless to say he didnt put it on his dogs. but the one person did have a very good idea. the pronged collars. they dont actually hurt the dog. it just kind of startles them. that would be my best answer to you

My sister has two dogs and uses the spray collars. They work really well and it does't hurt the dogs like the shock collars

 Q. Do you think it is cruel to use a barking collar on a dog? my parents bought one that zaps the dog when they bark, and increases the zap the more they bark.
my dog barks a lot and i don't want our neighbors to get pissed off and complain or something.
opinions?
Its very cruel. Suggest that your parents wear it for the day and then ask how terrible it was to be shocked every single time they tried to say something - that should put things in perspective a little bit.

 Q. Can i somehow make a remote control dog barking collar so i can push it everytime my dog barks? i would like to be able to push a button everytime my dog barks to train him to stop barking, something that will either spray in his face or be enough annoyance for him to learn that everytime he barks, he gets sprayed or shocked.
A barking dog can be frustrating for both owners and neighbours. It is also the number one reason for euthanasia for dogs in Western countries. There are collars available that do what you are requesting but while they can be useful (except shock collars - they are illegal for good reason) they should not be used as a first step. Dogs bark for lots of reasons. Mostly they bark because when they do they get attention or they are bored. Often owners do the wrong thing when their dog barks, they go outside and tell their dog off. Soon you teach them each time they bark you will appear and dogs dont really care if it is good or bad attention. If you went out only when the dog was quiet or it was allowed in only when it was quiet, it would soon stop barking. Still, it can be difficult to keep them occupied if they barking from boredom. Walk them every day and give them toys (change them each day) things should improve. If your dog barks when it greets you, walk away and do not speak to it. Always do this until your dog doesnt bark when approach then make a big fuss. Be consistent if your dog barks always use the same approach and your dog will learn much faster ie. immediate separation from you. Try to teach your dog that the bark yard is a quiet area and all games where your dog loves to bark are done at the park or outside the yard. There is also the bucket of water technique. ie keeping a bucket of cold water next to the door and if your dog barks throw it at them without saying a word. In some areas, if your in a situation where there is no other choice, you can request a debarking surgery - this is a controversial option but can be better than euthanasia. Be consistent and things will improve. Good luck

 Q. What is the best brand of bark collar to stop my dog from barking? are there other methods that work better? my dog is driving me insane. i've heard that collars that increase the intensity with the number of barks don't work well because they just teach the dogs to bark only two or three times. i want to stop it completely!
"But after checking it out..."
i had bought one once in a fit of anger because of the barking. but after checking it out , i just couldn't do it. i brought it back an the lady actually said thank you. now years later, after some hard times' we're best friends an i have a clean conscious.

 Q. What is the best barking collar for a small dog who growls when he plays? my concern is that he loves to growl when he plays with our other dog. i don't want the collar to go off just when he is being playful with the other dog and not barking. and he is a little guy, about 12 lbs.
you want a collar to stop barking but not growling is that correct??
better training will stop barking, forget the collars. Use spray bottles when he barks, DO NOT talk to him when he barks - even saying "NO" is rewarding him.
If you decide to use a collar then remove it when the dogs have playtime.

 Q. Has anyone used a barking control collar on a chihuahua or a small dog? my dog barks constantly if left alone so im going to try a collar and dont know which one, there are the spray ones and the sonic ones and i was wondering what one was better. if you dont have experience using one on a dog no need to respond. thank you everyone else!!!
i didnt say anything about a shock collar to the dumb ass who just said his opinion. i would never use one on my dog.
The citronella one's are better to use and won't cause any damage. If you use a shock collar you have a good chance of killing or permanently injuring your dog (especially since it's so small). I used it ONCE, on level one, on my Lab. 70 lb dog....jumped about a food in the air, turned around and almost crapped himself AND cried! If you want your dog to do that, or worse...well, I'm just saying. Go with citronella spray collars.
