Q. Im looking to buy a 2005 honda element, jeep compass, or a dodge nitro? is there anyone out there who owns any of these cars around that year? what do you think of it? is it a good reliable cheap to own car? have you had any major issues? what have your repair bills been like? would you recommend it?
You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.yoll.net

Q. Jeep, good or bad american made car company? my parents are looking into a 2009 jeep compass, we all like the look. my mom says jeeps are bad because they are american made. can someone tell me about jeep? are they good american made cars? or cheap?
"I would say the compass isnt exactly jeeps premier vehicles..."
I would say The Compass isnt exactly Jeeps premier vehicles. Its supposed to be cheaply made.. I do beleive this though. It has a lifetime powertrain warranty.. So that alone says something... If any car is taken care of(serviced properly) and not abused it will last a long time. But if you do not service them properly and you drive them in an abusive way (this includes constantly drivingt with the a/c on) you will eat alternators water pumps, batteries fuses and etc... I have and have owned over 10 AMCs and Jeeps alone(plus a few other brands) and They have never failed me... My only cars that have done me wrong have been my BMW 323i and Audi 100 D... Those were some cheaply made cars...

Q. Can the chinese ever become innovators of societies? will the chinese ever become innovators or are they doomed to make cheap goods for the developed world?
please don't point out thing like "the chinese invented paper, gun powder and the compass". i know these facts but that was then, his is now; china copies everything they see and do little to protect intellectual property.
"Doing anything else than being producers of cheap goods for the developed world……and recently..."
NO!
I never say never, but for now and the near future I cannot picture the Chinese as innovators. The people here are lazy, and lack initiative to take on tasks outside of their scope of duty. They also lack problem-solving skills, which are essential to innovators. This is extremely evident in the service industry, or should I say “lack of service industry” These traits do not apply to everyone but definitely the mass majority.
Another reason I don’t think they will become innovators is because the rule of law doesn’t really exist here. It’s about who you know, where you are from, rather than who is right. If someone from Beijing has a patent and someone in Shanghai is copying them and is obviously at fault. If the case gets taken to a Shanghai court room the person from Beijing will lose, not because he doesn’t have a case, but simply because he is from Beijing, not shanghai.
The Chinese are very racist people as well. The new World Financial Center in Shanghai was designed by a Japanese man, but because he is Japanese they’ve black listed his name form all marketing materials and posted a dummy US firm on the cover instead…simply to cover the fact that a Japanese person designed it.
So NO, these are not character traits of an innovative society. At this point I cannot see the Chinese doing anything else than being producers of cheap goods for the developed world……and recently they can’t even get that right.

Q. Reviews of the jeep compass? i am in the market for a new vehicle, possibly a small, fuel efficient suv, and am curious about the jeep compass. have you or anyone you know purchased this vehicle and if so...give me input. how is its durability (is it cheap and not in the good way), and so on...any info would relly be helpful...thx
"The compass is basically a copy of the..."
The Compass is basically a copy of the Dodge Caliper with a different grille and available 4wd. I find it dull but reliable, a sort of ürban Jeep". In my opinion the better choice is the Jeep Patriot. They share the same drivetrain which makes it reliable, the body style give you more room, and it is availible with more options. Owners report about 24-25 city and almost 30 hwy. Good luck.

Q. Is all this dealer-provided maintenance on my jeep compass worth it? i have a 2007 jeep compass which came with a lifetime power train warranty (no cap) meaning that for as long as i own the vehicle the warranty is still good. that is a good thing. i think. but the thing is, it costs me over $1000 per year to get the dealer-provided maintenance that is required in order to keep the warranty in effect.
i put about 25k miles on it per year and intend to keep it at least 7 years or as long as it is still in good running condition and isn't a constant source of stress about what's going to break next (and where).
so -- this means that i will be spending at least $7k or $8k on dealer provided maintenance in order to keep the power train warranty in effect (and that's assuming that the price of that maintenance doesn't go up over time).
so my question is: is it worth it to keep paying for all this expensive (and possibly excessive) maintenance "from the dealer" (who is more expensive than others who could provide the same service) just to keep the lifetime power train warranty in effect? or would it be better to get regular oil changes at the cheap oil change place, rotate the tires myself, do other things 'as needed' and put the rest of that money in the bank in case i need to pay for something that would have been covered under the warranty (and if not, i can use it as a down payment on my next car)?
i would really appreciate answers from people who know something about this, rather than off-the-cuff opinions from people who don't actually know anything about vehicle maintenance (i already get those from friends, co-workers, etc., thanks).
"Im a master automotive technician with over 25 yrs experience..."
OK an in depth question deserves an in depth answer, so here goes.
Im a Master Automotive Technician with over 25 yrs experience and I've worked in both dealerships and independant reapir facilities through my career. I'm currently the shop foreman at a Dodge Chrysler Jeep dealership. And this is what I can tell you.
First, you do not need to have all of your maintenance done at the dealer to keep your warranty valid. read your warranty paperwork carefully. You DO need to have bi-annual inspections done by the dealership after a certain mileage to keep the warranty valid but you have the right to have most of the maintenance done at the shop of your choice as long as you keep good records.
Next, I strongly recomend against the "cheap oil change places". They generally do more harm than good. They buy the cheapest product (like $0.75 Korean oil filters) and hire kids for dirt cheap wages that arent qualified to service your vehicle. That's why they are so cheap and still in business. If you dont want to go to the dealer, find a reputable independant garage, which can be tricky itself for most people. Your best bet is find people you trust who are willing to recomend a shop they have been using for a period of time. If you do that you will learn a lesson, The dealership is'nt really more expensive than our qualified independant bretheren. We're all just more expensive than the cheap oil change places and fly by night shops, because quality costs more.
Next, I looked at the maintenance schedule for you vehicle and I think your $1000.00 per year estimate is a bit high. Even though you drive about twice the miles per year as the nat'l average I can't see more than about $500.00 per yr in normal maintenance. Maybe you've been misled by an unscrupulous salesman?? Go to your dealers Service Manager and ask him to explain exactly what you have to do and who you can have do it to protect your warranty. If he tells you it all has to be done at the dealer then find another dealer, he's BSing you. Unfortunantly not all dealers are alike, but there are many honest ones out there if you look.
At the end of the day I strongly recomend doing what it takes to keep that warranty intact. It could save you a ton. I know, I see it every day.
Just do your diligence so you can maintain the vehicle affordably without sacrificing quality.
Best of luck!

Q. Poll: what's in your purse? what should all girls 17+ carry in there purse? and what are some good brands that are cheap like compass trading? and what should i carry and where can i get for defense? so i can be safe you know? where can you get pepper spray etc??
thanks lol!:d
so whats in your purse?
i also mean for self-defense lol!
I'm not sure where to get these from, they were given to me.
My ex gave me a box cutter, my brothers gave me a swiss army knife and mace on a keychain.
If you google mace spray and your city, state and zip code, it should list some vendors in your area or some sites and their prices.
Other than that, in my purse I have:
My Driver's License
Campus ID card
Lip Gloss
OPI pretty plum nail polish
Mentos watermelon gum
Eye shadow (brown, light brown, green)
My cell phone
My GPS
My digital camera
And my access id to the building where I work.

Q. Vacant land in compass lake hills in alford, fl - part of jackson county, fl? i posted a question on here last week but really didn't get too many responses - so i'll try to be a little more specific this time. my family and i are looking to relocate from nj to somewhere greener, somewhere warmer. we are looking at nc, sc, ga and fl. i found a piece of property (actually, there are hundreds of lots avail) in a place called compass lake, fl in alford - which is in jackson county florida. i no nothing about this area - schools - people - towns - shopping... nothing. i'm concerned that its out in the middle of nowhere with no good schools, no shopping (or have to travel to shopping) and there is no way for me to learn except for, maybe, some people like you who have been here or know of this area. any input would be great! i should note - the property here is way way way cheaper than almost anywhere else i have found... and i'm thinking there must be a reason for this.
"Compass lake isn't that bad but as you guessed..."
Compass Lake isn't that bad but as you guessed, you have to be ready to do some driving . The closest places where you can
shop is Marianna, about 15 min away and Panama City, about
45 min away or so. The weather is warm and humid, more so in
the rainy season. There is less chance of a hurricane compared
to the Southern part of the state, and the beaches are great. I
was in the area about four years ago, so it may have changed by now.
