Q. Do wireless dog fences really work?

"Even cats don`t lure my dog away..."

Amazingly they work great. I can let my dog out in the front yard without a problem. Even cats don`t lure my dog away. Its was a lot cheaper than a fixed fence too!

Q. Which electronic dog door is the safest?

"The new dog doors are a special electronic lock that senses your dog`s electronic..."

The new dog doors are a special electronic lock that senses your dog`s electronic key (built into his collar). Do NOT get the kind that is infrared only as they will let in other dogs or worse a thief. You must get the kind that has the electronic key that you attach to your dog`s leash. Obviously, you want to get one that doesn`t have an obvious looking key if your dog is the trusting and friendly type with respect to strangers. You may want to disguise it somehow.

Q. Does the petsafe stubborn dog electronic fence work?

"Yes there fences work but you have to take time to train your dog..."

This is cool , believe it or not I use to work for Petsafe. Yes there fences work but you have to take time to train your dog. You can't just put down the fence and expect your dog to know why he/she is getting the shock. So if you will take time to train your dog the fence is great.

Q. Do electronic fences for dogs work?
we just need a way of keeping the puppy from going into parts of the backyard where we don't want it to go. in a section of the backyard, we have azaleas growing which are supposedly poisonous to dogs; and from going under the deck; and from going behind the shed. would getting an electronic fence be worth it if just to block of these areas?

"Invisible fence will work with a puppy as young as 8 weeks old..."

Yes. You want to get a professional to install the system, like Invisible Fence or Pet Stop. Invisible Fence will work with a puppy as young as 8 weeks old, Pet Stop won't do it until the dog is 16 weeks. The fence (and flags) itself is only about 50% of the system. Equally important is the training that their people do with you and your dog. Ideally, your dog will only get the shocks DURING the training period. After that, your dog won't go near the fence. They start out the training and the collar only beeps, then a week or so later, they turn on the correction (shock) on a low setting. They don't put the collar on the highest setting until well after you and your dog have had a lot of practice, and the dog knows what's going to happen if s/he gets too close to the flags. We had our fence installed a few months ago, and our puppy will not get within ten feet of those flags. When we take him out of the yard for walks, we take off the collar and carry him over. The fence isn't cheap - we have about 3/4 of an acre, and it was close to $1000, but I have such peace of mind. We live on a very busy road and I never worry about him running into traffic. People with dogs walk by on the sidewalk in front of our house, and our dog barks like crazy, but he never, ever gets too close. Also, before we signed the contract to purchase the system, the fence people promised us that they would continue the training until we and they were 100% positive that our dog would not try to cross the line. It took our puppy less than 3 weeks, and then we were able to take him off the leash and let him run. Good luck with your decision!

Q. Do electronic fences work for dogs?
pet-safe are a company that makes them. but i was wondering are they good or are they harmful to a dog. hes a bichon frise who likes being out in the garden and i would like a method of keeping him in a certain perimeter without worrying he will escape

"They are fine for any type of dog..."

they are fine for any type of dog. they have like different levels of shock so for little dogs it will go with their weight and same with big dogs. i have it for my lab and my cocker spaniel

Q. Do electronic pet fences work and what is the best brand?
i have a lab and rotti that are very hard to train. i've been told that electronic fences dont work at all. my dogs do respond when they have their shock collars on isnt this how the electric fence works?

"Petsafe is the brand we use..."

I have a wireless fence for our bulldog. It works very well. PetSafe is the brand we use. I have noticed that the wireless doesn't work as well if you have a bigger dog because the jolt doesn't get there attention as much. They do make collars that have different levels of shock. The ones that you dig and put in the ground are stronger and would probably work better for your pets, but you do have to dig and put the fence in the ground.

Q. Does electronic fencing work for cats?
i'd like to let my cats out when i'm home and am considering an electronic/invidiible fence (similar to a dog's fence) for my cats. has anyone tried one? does it work?

"Bad problems with this most of them work by shocking the dog/cat and this..."

We have tried this and we had very bad problems with this Most of them work by shocking the Dog/cat and this works if they are walking but if they are on the run they go past the line and they will not come back They are supposed to get to know that if they go to that spot they will get a shock. But shocking animals even though it does not hurt them they get desensitized and it will take a more and more powerful shock to do the same thing. It has been my experience that they will get out.

Q. Do pet radio fences (invisible fences) work well?
i am looking into the different systems of electronic pet fences. i just wanted to know if anyone had different experiences with the different brands...and how well do these fences work? please note, i live in a covenant controlled area that most likely would 'not' allow a 'solid' wood fence or any type of standing wire fence. it has to look pretty. building a fence is not an option. my neighbors have those white vinyl fences (not high enough to keep a giant breed of dog in).

"The most important thing to make them work right is to train the dog..."

I have the Pet Safe invisible fence. There are no wires to bury or anything and it works great for us.Our dog has learned its boundaries now and never gets shocked.I think the most important thing to make them work right is to train the dog properly. We took the dog out on a leash and taught her the boundaries before we just let her out on her own.We took our time and didn't rush things and it sure has payed off.

Q. Strength of electronic fence dog collar?
i am currently working on a debate over the judge rotenberg center, and to prove my stance, i was wondering if i could use the containment collar for my dog. she is kept in my property via an invisible fence, and while i've tested the collar before, i wanted to get as close to the actual strength as the ged as possible. thanks in advance!

I presume you are going to zap yourself to see what it would be like to receive GED. You can use the containment collar on yourself. Even at the highest strength it will not hurt you.

Q. Can older dogs use electronic fences? or other suggestions for fences in a wooded area?
i'm interested in getting an electric fence for my dogs. one, a yellow lab/pit bull/other mix, is 8 or 9, and a black lab mix, around 5 or 6. are they to old to learn how to use and electric fence? or do you have to start a dog on one when they are a puppy? if not, do you have examples of fencing that would work in rural/forest-ish area? like, with trees and banks and stuff. we can't do wood, since they always chew through! thanks!

no my ten year old dog learned quick and easy

Q. Electronic fences???????
i don't use one and don't plan on it. i have a chain link fence all around my property. i was just curious about something. what about people who do use one? what keeps other animals off their property? i mean it's an electronic collar that makes the fence work, right? so there's nothing keeping other dogs out is there? omg chuckles thanks for the new pics!! i love them!! especially all the ones they look like they're smiling and laughing!!!!!

"Yet another reason i don't like electronic fences!!..."

I don't think any dog "lives in fear of being electrocuted". However - those fences are not for me, exactly for the reason you state Shannon - there is nothing to keep other animals out. Add: Chuckles - great point about power outages. Yet another reason I don't like electronic fences!!

Q. Does anyone with well trained weims have success with electronic fences?
i have a 10-year old blue and a 3-year old grey weimaraner. both are very well behaved. we're moving from a 1/4 acre fenced to 2 acres where we can't have a physical fence. the dogs recall is fine and i have no problem spending the time on training. the grey if highly wildlife motivated, but will reluctantly give up pursuit. the blue is content with being glued to me. i'd never have them outside unsupervised based on size and speed. think i could make an electric fence work? also, how do people in the midwest get weims their exercise in the winter?

"Description of the dogs personality it will work for you...."

I know one family that it works fine and my neighbor had put one in and it didnt. I think its the training and MAINLY the WILL of the dog at whatever has his attention. No doubt the training is equally important.I think with your description of the dogs personality it will work for you.
