Q. Do wireless dog fences really work?

My dog won`t go beyond my front yard even when a dog comes and pees on our grass. (his electronic fence stops before our sidewalk and public property area)

Q. Do wireless dog fences really work?

Amazingly they work great. I can let my dog out in the front yard without a problem. Even cats don`t lure my dog away. Its was a lot cheaper than a fixed fence too!

Q. Do electric dog fences work? if not, is there an inexpensive alternative you would recommend?
i have to find a way to keep our dog in the yard besides fencing in the property. we live in the country and it's not possible. we've tried a nylon cord attached to the deck but then she (our 6 month old puppy) won't leave the porch. to my defense... (knowitallssuckiamone) this dog came to my house as a stray and due to the high kill shelters around we decided to keep this dog. she choose us not the other way around.

"I am a dealer for..."

Yes electronic fences do work. Alot of people here bring up valid points about some electronic fences. You need to make sure that you contact a reputable company and have the fence installed and trained to the fence. Alot of these so called professionally installed brands are full of it they do install the fence but instead of training the dog they simply scare the dog into staying in the yard. I am a dealer for Pet Stop Pet Fence Systems and we do it right. All of our dogs are gently and effectively trained to the system using a beep, then a low shock level that feels like a tickle. (Yes I have put it on, and I gave a presentation at a Home show while wearing the collar getting shocked) Visit www.petstop.com and enter your zip code to find your local dealer. They will be able to assist you further.

Q. How do wireless electric dog fences work compared to wired systems?

Most people experience better results with the wired systems. Although the installation cost is more expensive, you get much better defined boundaries.

Q. Would an electric dog fence work on rabbits?
my dad wants to put an electric dog fence up in the front yard to keep the rabbits out of the yard. would that work and would it like hurt the animal possibly to the point of death?

Using electric fence to control Rabbits is common. There are lots of web sites that offers information how to setup the fence. I believe the best setup would be a two wire fence, one about three inches off of the ground and one 8 inches off of the ground, both wires are your "hot" wire. THe ground still goes to the ground. Electric fences are designed to give a low level shock with no amperage. Amperage is what kill. Most people are able to turn off the fence after a few weeks because the critters that come in contact with the fence once or twice will learn.

Q. Does a dog electric fence work for all dogs?
see i was thinking of getting a dog electric fence but i need to know what it does. because i was thinking if my dog saw a cat my dog would chase it, right. but if i had one of those fences would my dog chase the cat. i will like to know what would happen

It only works if the sting of the shock is more of a deterrent than their reason for leaving. We had one and my dog would just walk through it if she wanted to. The jolt didn't deter her enough, no matter what we set it on. We eventually gave up and only let her off lead in the fenced yard.

Q. How well do electric dog fences work well with an exsisting fence? (dog is a digger)?
i have 3 shar peis, they are all very good dogs but my one male is a digger to the max, so before i go out and spend all of this money, am i making a mistake? please help! **i already have stones and such around my yard =[ its not workinggg and now i have the animal shelter calling me and showing up here every day. i chain him up to pee but sometimes he gets thru the door and just digs as fast as he can and hes out of the yard in the blink of an eye. hes not mean and not hurting anyone but they neighbors are annoyed which i can understand. so far nothing is working

One of my dogs also loves to dig I bought 16 gauge welded chicken wire at a home supply store I dug a large trench around the perimeter of my fence, bent the chicken wire in an "L" shape so that the bottom portion was buried in the ground and the top portion was attached to the fence. The welded chicken wire is much stronger than the regular, they can not get chew through it or break it. Is your male neutered? One reason he may be wanting to escape the yard is that a b*tch may be in heat that he wants to get to. Neutering him would help alleviate that somewhat. If you use electric fencing it won't so much as it generally is placed on an existing fence for jumpers but not diggers. Not sure how effective it would be to bury it. Unless you mean invisible fencing..that may work if you take the time to train him, however I would go with the Chicken wire so that even if he attempts to dig he wouldn't get far in his efforts. Here are links for the wire http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?keyword=welded+chicken+wire&langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

Q. Experience with electric dog fences?
will those underground electric dog fences work in the wintertime as well, under the snow? several feet of snow? my dog is very big, any experience with how to keep her in?

Electric dog fences don't always work, especially with larger breed dogs. And they aren't always dependable for smaller dogs, especially if you lose electrical power. If the fence isn't used properly, the dog may get injured. Instead, you should consider spending your money on behavior training. You will have a happier more responsive, and well behaved dog as a result. My neighbor installed an electric fence for his dog. When the dog (Alaskan Husky) wanted to go out of the yard badly enough - like to chase after a squirrel - he'd take the electrical jolt and get out anyway. He was always getting out of the yard. He eventually got the dog trained and he quit taking off. Behavior training is the best way to keep a dog from running off. With the right training, daily exercise and supervision, your dog will quit leaving home. Check with your local vet or animal shelter about reliable trainers in your area.

Q. Do dog electric fences really work?
its like a fence thats built in the ground that shocks the dog a little when he tries to cross it (they wear a collar) question is does it really work?!?

I am not a fan of these systems for many reasons. *They don't keep other animals or people out, putting your dog at higher risk for a run in with strange animals or being picked on by people. *They may not keep the dog in. Many dogs will some something really exciting beyond the boundary and run right through the fence to get it. The reward of getting what they want is better than getting a shock from the fence. But getting back into the yard isn't worth another shock so the dogs are left wandering. *They can create behavioral problems. I've seen many previously friendly out going dogs turn into fearful aggressive dogs when these are used. A dog who is friendly may bound toward some people on the street it gets shocked by the fence. As far as the dog is concerned the people could have shocked him. http://www.positivedogs.com/articles/ele... http://www.dogstardaily.com/blogs/illusi...
